27 December

After several days of thinking too much about a website, I finally have a website in place for the MOO. It's based on a free template from Free-Templates.org. It looks way better than my circa-1996 hand-coded HTML that had been there, and it's easily expandable as I add more content. Right now there are a bunch of things that will be links later that aren't links yet. Now I can stop worrying this and go back to building rooms and objects.

Overnight 18-19 DEC

Not motivated all day, then woke up at 0300 and went nuts. 20 rooms; interior of Zone 0 ("MOO Visitor's Center" and grounds) floorplan is about done. Technically, there's enough content to allow friends to log on and explore and socialize, but I want more detail and nuance before I show the world. There's space, but I want it to be intriguing space. Uptime 2d 10h 3m 10s. Things are getting complicated enough that I took a backup of the db and moved it to a different machine.

Thursday 17 DEC Pt II

Added a couple more rooms to Zone 0. Played with setting up a placeholder web page for nwm.genesismuds.com website. Room count is at 7.5. Uptime is 1d 3h 13m 39s.

Thursday 17 DEC

Added 'whoami' verb to generic player, allowing players to easily track multiple logins. Added a couple of rooms to Zone 0. Distracted now, but will work on it more later.

Wednesday 16 DEC

Today put MOO online permanently, passworded archwizard account. Created ASCII art banner and customized Welcome screen. Created Zone 0 builder character. Customized starting room desc and dug room 1. Used builder character so bulk of construction will belong to it, not archwizard. Current uptime is 4h 31m 58s.

PC To Unix db?

Today verified that you cannot use a database created on a PC on a Linux machine. So the 14-room map I had started won't be available on the public server. But that's easily fixed. I just need to get working on the new map!

Day Zero

The MOO account was finally activated today. I FTP'd in the server software and database. Compiled the server and executed a test run. Everything works! It was pretty easy - the hardest part was trying to remember syntax a couple of times.

Shut it down for the night because there is no security enabled, not even passwords. Tomorrow I'll try copying over Windows db and seeing if Linux server can run it. No big loss if it can't, but useful to know.

A pretty good day.
